Ocular Technologies Reclaims Level One BBBEE Rating

September 30, 2013

Ocular Technologies, a provider of contact center solutions, successfully reclaimed the South African broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) rating of level one. The BBBEE is South Africa’s growth strategy that aims to bring the majority of its citizens into the economic mainstream. Independent rating company SERA was involved in delivering an impartial verification of the BBBEE initiatives that Ocular has undertaken.

In a statement, Ebrahim Dinat, chief operating officer at Ocular Technologies, said, "In its efforts to reclaim the level one rating, Ocular focused tirelessly on the seven pillars of the generic scorecard – ownership, management and control, employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, enterprise development and socio-economic development. However, we will not let the legalities of BBBEE overshadow its core benefits, namely, transformation and empowerment – of the individual, the company and the country as a whole.”

Furthermore, Ocular Technologies has successfully maintained a procurement recognition level of 135 percent. According to Dinat, Ocular, BBBEE is not just about boasting rights; it has more to do with empowerment and reversing inequalities of the past.

“At the same time, Ocular realizes the enormous benefits a level one rating provides the company and its clients. Ocular Technologies is 100 percent black-owned and complies with the South African BBBEE guidelines," Dinat said. "As a level one contributor with a procurement recognition level of 135 percent, the company is well positioned to offer its customers better procurement options, through the correct channels – all of which plays a role in underscoring the company's commitment to transformation and continuous improvement within the empowerment sphere."

Established in 2003, Ocular Technologies boasts of more than a decade of proven service within the South African market. During this time, Ocular positioned itself at the forefront of the industry as the partner of choice for a number of large-scale corporations, SMEs and government affiliates.
