Interactive Intelligence Wins Mira Award, Recognized as Tech Company of the Year

April 26, 2013

TechPoint, an initiative for technology in Indiana that rewards entrepreneurship and encourages its growth, just finished its 14th Mira Awards last weekend by giving an award (“trailblazer in technology”) to Interactive Intelligence Inc.'s own CEO, Don Brown, in front of an audience of approximately a thousand people. The awards ceremony took place at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.

Don Brown had quite the surprise after the awards he received. TechPoint has also given an award to the call center software provider for tech company of the year.

CEO Don Brown graduated from North Central High School, has an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in computer science from Indiana University. He founded Software Artistry, a company that provided, marketed and developed two suites of customer support software applications. The company was later sold to IBM in the late ‘90s and he then founded Interactive Intelligence, which became a public company in 1999 and has 1,500 employees.

Over 100 companies competed for the Mira awards across 12 different categories. Other companies that have won are:

  • Indigo BioSystems, a laboratory software provider, for Innovator of the Year.
  • BidPal, a mobile auctioner, for Emerging Technology Company of the Year.
  • Smarter Remarketer, a developer of a SaaS email marketing automation and analysis software application, for Tech Startup of the Year.
  • BidPal, again, for Mobile Technology Excellence and Innovation.
  • Angie's List, a service that compiles and displays consumer ratings of local services in the U.S., for Marketing Technology Excellence and Innovation.
  • Hill-Rom, a medical technology provider, for Corporate IT Excellence and Innovation Award.
  • LeadJen, a company that “helps B2B sales and marketing executives get value out of every prospecting call,” for IT/Tech Service Excellence and Innovation.
  • Hc1.Com, a healthcare CRM service, for Health Information Technology Excellence and Innovation.
  • CurriculumLoft and IunayWare, both mobile learning providers, for Technology in Education Excellence and Innovation.
  • Marvin Bailey for Technology Educator of the Year.
  • Santiago Jaramillo, founder of BlueBridge Digital (developer of various apps), for Young Professional of the Year.
  • DREAM Alive for Foundation of Youth Bridge Builder.
TechPoint's CEO, Michael Langellier, said, “We had the largest class of Mira Awards finalists ever this year. It's a sign of the increasing activity and growth in the tech entrepreneurial communities. The Mira Awards had a record 91 finalists this year chosen by an expert panel of 39 judges.”
