Birch Communications Finalizes DayStar Acquisition

August 14, 2012

Atlanta-based Birch Communications has finalized an agreement with DayStar Communications that will result in Birch acquiring the assets of Daystar. This will be Birch’s 16th acquisition in the past six years, and it is part of the firm’s ever increasing goal to expand its market.

Birch is a source of information technology services catering to small- and medium-sized businesses (SMB). DayStar provides similar services to a similar consumer base. With its infrastructure already in place, Birch wanted to acquisition to reach consumers in Florida.

"Through this acquisition, Birch continues its recent expansion into southwest Florida.  DayStar's Metaswitch-based facilities network, and many thousands of SMB customers, fit very well into our growing facilities-based enterprise,” said Vincent M. Oddo, Birch president and CEO. “We are excited to introduce the former DayStar customers to our award-winning customer service, as well as to our expanded product portfolio of leading-edge IP-based services. In the coming months and years, we plan to continue the expansion of our customer base, our service footprint and the scope of our products and services to better serve our SMB customer base."

While the acquisition may have been finalized, the transaction has yet to actually take place. Birch is expecting the deal to close late in the third quarter of 2012.

After the deal closes, Birch will start with the transition of DayStar’s customers and assets.

"Birch Communications has significant experience and success transitioning new customers to our IP-based network with minimal delay," said Chris Aversano, Birch chief operating officer.  "We welcome the former DayStar customers, employees and dealers, and are committed to making this a smooth transition for all."

According to Inc. 500|5000 magazine in its 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2004 rankings, Birch is one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States. Part of the reason it has been able to maintain such a title is due to its acquisition strategy with deals like DayStar.
