Expand Networks Intros Two New WAN Optimization Devices for the Datacenter
October 20, 2008
Expand Networks, a provider of application acceleration solutions over the Wide Area Network (WAN), has just launched two new WAN Optimization devices, the 7930 and 7940 Accelerators which the company claims will deliver superior resilience and performance in the Datacenter.
“The 7900 Series Accelerators have been developed to provide the performance guarantees and redundant capabilities needed of WAN Optimization devices to address the demands of increasingly complex datacenter environments,” said Adam Davison, corporate vice president sales and marketing at Expand Networks.
The new Accelerators are HP-based appliances and have 512GB and 1TB storage respectively and RAID-5 (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) capabilities, to protect data from the loss of any one disk, to achieve greater levels of performance and complete redundancy in the datacenter.
Additionally, the 7930 and 7940 deliver up to 100 and 250 Mbps respectively of optimized throughput.
Founded in 19998, Expand has evolved into a supplier of a multi-service integrated platform known as The Expand Compass, an open and integrated standards-based platform.
Stena Metall is one of Expand’s 3,500 customers around the world and has experienced the benefits of the 7900 Series Accelerators. Olof Hultin, Stena Metall’s IT communications manager, said, “Simply deployed, the 7900 Series Accelerators have demonstrated the hard drive resilience and storage capacity needed to support our WAFS users. Such is the scale and flexibility of the products that we will be upgrading our datacenter from previous Expand Accelerators to the 7900 Series to enable us to support all WAFS users across our 50 sites in Europe.”
The 7930 and 7940 Accelerators will be available from November 2008.
During early September, 2008, Expand Netoworks had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held NetPriva Pty Ltd, a specialist developer of software-only WAN Optimization solutions. The acquisition was successfully completed allowing the company to expand its vision to market with next generation WAN optimization technology.
