October 16, 2013

Call centers have evolved tremendously in the last few years and the future of call center jobs is promising considering the ever-evolving consumer who seeks a better, faster and more convenient customer experience to compliment modern functions like ordering online or utilizing call center services to access personalized information.

As consumers evolve and demand better service, so will call center solutions evolve to create more jobs. Recently, CallCenterCrossing indicates that there are 22,965 call center jobs in the U.S. that are still to be filled in. Out of these, 9,839 opportunities were generated this week.

Harrison Barnes, CEO of Employment Research Institute, the parent company of CallCenterCrossing, says, “Contact-center vacancies will continue to grow and become crucial to the success of businesses.” He also says taking up a call center sales representative or service agent position can actually be a great stepping stone toward higher level sales and service positions.

According to CallCenterCrossing, the main factors influencing the contact center hiring are Obamacare, the upcoming holiday season and the general economic expansion that is currently taking place.

Obamacare has directed health insurers and government agencies to recruit more call center representatives. The new representatives will be in charge of answering questions and enquiries from millions of American residents who have signed up through healthcare exchanges.

Vangent Inc. is also opening call centers specifically to answer questions with regard to healthcare reform and was even granted a $530 million one-year contract from the federal government for this purpose. Likewise, more than 600 workers have been hired in Illinois for a state-run call center.

In addition, TLK Group of Richmond will soon open a new call center in line with its expansion plans. The company intends to hire about 500 employees over the next 12 months. Also, a call center for Harry and David is also expected to hire 800-900 people and Oklahoma-based West Corporation that will soon create 300 new employees over the next few months.
