CA Introduces OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation R11.6

June 11, 2008

CA has introduced CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation (CA OPS/MVS EMA) r11.6, the latest version of its solution for automating the management of z/OS system resources. The CA OPS/MVS EMA r11.6features a Switch Operations Facility (SOF) that enables enterprise IT departments to visualize, monitor and manage highly complex infrastructures.

The new SOF available with CA OPS/MVS EMA r11.6 enables mainframe system administrators to quickly visualize, monitor, and manage the health of complex ESCON (Enterprise Systems Connection) and FICON (Fiber Connectivity) infrastructures.

These infrastructures, which connect mainframes to peripheral resources such as storage devices, are instrumental in delivering IT services, but also are notoriously difficult and time-consuming to manage. With SOF, IT staff can manage this infrastructure more effectively in less time.

“CA’s new Switch Operations Facility will enable us to centrally manage the data center infrastructure changes that we have to make as a result of a recent acquisition,” said Patrick Barrez, IT team manager at Fortis. “We also can take advantage of the ability to automatically issue commands across all systems to simplify management and configuration changes to our data center—so we won’t have to hire more staff.”

In addition to SOF, CA OPS/MVS EMA r11.6 provides customers with 16 additional new applications that automate and simplify IBM mainframe management through integration and proactive automation.

“Enhancements to the new automation capabilities in r11.6 will improve our ability to provide a fast and simplified means to manage our existing performance driven automation,” said Rich Witzig, automation analyst at Navy Federal Credit Union. “CA’s new automated applications will also enable us to easily access system information to maintain our standard for service availability.”

The solution also enables enterprise IT departments to create multiple customized views of CA OPS/MVS EMA logs for specific business cycles or operational requirements. CA OPS/MVS EMA r.11.6 is designed to integrate with products from CA and third parties, including CA SYSVIEW Performance Management, CA Automation Point, Unicenter Network and Systems Management, CA Service Desk and the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON product family. The new release underscores the renewed commitment CA has made to its mainframe customers—which includes a series of technology, licensing and services initiatives.

“As our customers escalate their mainframe commitment, they are focused on improving ROI and administrator productivity by streamlining platform management,” said Mark Combs, senior vice president and general manager of mainframe development at CA. “With the latest release of CA OPS/MVS EMA, CA is helping customers increase the total business value returned by their IT budgets.”

CA OPS/MVS EMA is one of eight new and updated products announced by CA today that help customers lower IT operations costs, manage risk, and improve security and compliance processes. The products support CA’s Enterprise IT Management (EITM) vision by providing customers with the capabilities they need to better govern, manage and secure IT for better business results.
