Calico Energy Opens Unified Operations Center to Enable Utilities Address Smart Grid Challenges

October 31, 2011

Calico Energy Services, a provider of interoperable energy management solutions and analytics, announced it started Unified Operations Center for utilities and power providers.

Offering a new segment in the energy management software industry, the Unified Operations Center enables utilities to tie applications and information into one unified operations center.

The center has the capability to provide centralized reporting and control. It can also provide a centralized control center that connects to data, devices, engines and applications, company officials said.

Leveraging Calico's platform, Energy Intelligence Suite (EIS), utilities can streamline operations, reduce costs, and identify new revenue opportunities.

"Everywhere I go, I hear utilities talking about the difficulties of managing multiple standalone applications and of 'wiring' those applications together effectively," said Jesse Berst, founder and chief analyst, Smart Grid News, in a statement.

“While isolated capabilities of this solution have previously been available in other products, the combination of these elements in one holistic platform clearly defines a new and promising market segment," Berst added.

Calico’s Unified Operations Center performs three critical functions of energy management in one combined solution. It performs mining and unifying energy information, while providing insights and real-time decision making from analysis of information. It is designed to enable centralized control of targeted energy resources and grid assets.

"For some time now, our utility customers have been telling us that they need a centralized approach to effectively understand and manage energy use throughout their distribution infrastructure," said Brian Dawson, CEO of Calico Energy.

Recently, Calico Energy Services announced it received funding from Point B Capital and hired the firm to provide strategic consultation to accelerate the company's growth. Calico will use the money to accelerate growth, while also leveraging Point B’s broad portfolio of management consulting services.
