Avaya Announces one-X Mobile to Support iPhone

Avaya, a global provider of business communications applications, software and services, has announced that Avaya one-X Mobile will support Apple iPhone (News - Alert). The company also announced the availability of Avaya one-X Mobile for RIM, Palm, Java and WAP mobile devices.

Avaya (News - Alert) is the first company to announce access to enterprise communications from iPhone and now extends this access from the broadest range of mobile devices of any enterprise communications manufacturer today.

This Avaya solution enables businesses and employees to extend unified communications from both Avaya and Cisco (News - Alert). The one-X Mobile is designed to unite enterprise and mobile networks, allowing the two to work together more efficiently, while also increasing the value of existing investments in communications infrastructure.

Users are provided a downloadable interface that now converts mobile devices from RIM, Palm, Motorola (News - Alert), LG, Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony Ericsson and others into another endpoint on the corporate network.

iPhone users will have iPhone optimized access to the Avaya one-X Mobile interface. As a result, the iPhone can become their personal remote control for enterprise communications.

As business calls are routed through the company network with one-X Mobile, businesses and organizations can improve employee responsiveness to customers, worker productivity and business continuity while also reducing mobile calling costs and supporting compliance requirements.

Customers and colleagues can access employees through a single number regardless of their locations. Companies subject to compliance requirements can record calls taken or made through the mobile device and have a single source for call records.

Users can now have the power of their desk phone in their pocket, plus greater control over managing their time and availability. Inbound calls to their extension can simultaneously ring up to five designated endpoints, so calls can be taken from anywhere.

At the same time, VIP screening enables them to control privacy by setting parameters on which live calls ring through and when. In addition, with one-X Mobile , employees can visually view and play messages from the device; search corporate directory, personal phonebook, access call logs and initiate calls through the corporate extension without revealing the number; eliminate the need for a mobile mailbox; seamlessly switch from the mobile device to the desk phone in mid-call; and set special call handling rules.

The Avaya one-X Mobile is a server-software solution that supports Avaya Communication Manager and Modular Messaging software in addition to Cisco CallManager and Unity messaging, enabling companies to consistently support mobile devices even in mixed environments. The solution is available as part of the Avaya Unified Communications Standard Edition.

Avaya one-X Mobile is available now in North America through Avaya direct sales and authorized Avaya channel partners. Avaya one-X Mobile for iPhone will be available in North America early 2008 and will be provided automatically to new customers of one-X Mobile.

As individuals throughout the world become increasingly mobile, both for work and for pleasure, the demand for solutions that enable consistent and seamless communications will continue to grow. With the popularity of the iPhone and other smartphone devices, the opportunity for the one-X Mobile solution is significant.

Avaya has done well to build on the strength of its reputation and leverages its expertise in the industry to offer a solution that addresses the fundamental communications needs in the enterprise. In doing so, the company is helping to set the standard and driving demand for one-X Mobile.
