Cloud Services Help Businesses Avoid Unnecessary Capital Expenditures: ITEXPO East 2011 Panelist

February 01, 2011

Although ITEXPO East 2011 doesn't officially kick off until tomorrow, the event organizers and sponsors have set up a number of terrific pre-conference activities for today, including the SIP Trunking Workshop, the Telecom One-on-One Networking Event and the Cloud-Based Communications Panel, which will take place at 4:45 p.m. at the Gansevoort Hotel in Miami.

The panel will include several prominent figures in the cloud computing space, including Tim Passios, director of product marketing at Interactive Intelligence, well-known communications analyst David Yedwab and TMC CEO Rich Tehrani.

To offer attendees a window into what they can expect at the event, Tehrani recently sat down with Yedwab to discuss the cloud and its ever-increasing popularity in the SMB and enterprise sectors.

Yedwab noted that the widespread adoption of cloud services is forcing nearly every major player in the technology space to get into the game.

In fact, Verizon just made a big splash the other day by acquiring cloud computing and Web hosting solutions provider Terremark, which is ironically located in Miami, just down the street from the hotel where the panel will convene.

Yedwab said that he and the other panelists will touch upon a number of cloud-based business models and explain how they can be part of a successful overall IT strategy.

"There are all kinds of opportunities for companies to use offsite computerized IT services so they don't have to invest in capital expenses to build onsite capacity," he told Tehrani. "Where they may not need a full servers-worth, where they can share, where it can be implemented overnight or almost instantaneously."

Tehrani and Yedwab also talked about a few of Amazon's recent moves in the cloud space and a couple of other hot topics in the IT world.
