He got his artistic talent from his great-grandfather who was a master ceramic artist specializing in ornate pottery and decorative tiles that can be found throughout Jerusalem's Armenian churches. Vasken made jewelry from clay when he was just a child. Vasken studied architecture in Paris, ultimately completing an apprenticeship in jewelry at Maison Setrakian (1977) with the Setrakian master jeweler brothers.
