Alere Launches New Solution to Help Medicare Advantage and Commercial Health Plans Achieve Higher Ratings

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)--

Alere Health today announced the rollout of a new solution to help Medicare Advantage and commercial health plans achieve higher ratings for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Five-Star Quality Rating System and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) HEDIS® measures.

The Star & HEDIS® Performance Program guides health plans to improve performance in key quality measures evaluated by the CMS and NCQA during the ratings process, such as screenings, tests and vaccines or standards for managing chronic conditions. The program is designed to remove barriers to adherence by identifying and closing gaps in care through multi-modal messages that alert members and providers of care gaps, combined with behavioral health coaching to increase adherence and improve health outcomes.

"Taking steps to improve ratings can help health plans achieve the Triple Aim and move them even closer to getting the business results they seek," says Alere Health CEO Craig Keyes, MD. "By improving their performance in key nationally recognized quality standards, health plans can achieve higher quality bonus payments and rebates, expand their services to attract more members and really gain a competitive advantage."

The Star & HEDIS® Performance rogram is an expansion of the AlereTM CareAlerts program, which uses advanced, proprietary algorithms to identify medical and pharmacy-related gaps in care, alerting both members and providers to take action to close these gaps. In a 12-month evaluation, the AlereTM CareAlerts program demonstrated closure rates of 33 percent for overall gaps and 56 to 66 percent for pharmacy-related gaps.

In the Star & HEDIS® Performance Program, members receive multi-modal messaging alerts via mail, email, fax and IVR when care gaps are identified. Their physicians are notified via emails and IVR messages. For members who need more than an alert to take action, Alere offers behavioral health coaches trained to provide one-on-one support for identifying barriers to adherence and developing a plan of action to close care gaps.

With more than 20 years of experience serving Medicare and commercial populations, Alere has demonstrated success with driving healthy change, reducing health risks and supporting clients with customizable communications and flexible reporting.
