ViXS XCodePro Chipsets First to Support HEVC Processing Up to Ultra HD 4K Resolutions for Cloud-Based Content Distribution

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

ViXS Systems Inc. (TSX: VXS) today announced that the XCodePro family of products, designed for cloud-based and traditional broadcast distributors of premium content, support processing MPEG2, Advanced Video Coding (AVC), and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) up to 4K resolution, setting a new bar for density, quality and low power in broadcast infrastructure applications. The XCodePro 350 HEVC transcoder is sampling now with production available in Q1 of 2014, with additional XCodePro product launches planned across 2014 to create a full range of HEVC encoding and professional decoding solutions.

There was significant growth in delivery of cloud-based video and network DVR services over the last year, and many of the top content providers have announced Ultra HD 4K content for 2014. As consumers demand these advanced services in rapidly increasing numbers, deploying HEVC to save precious bandwidth is critical to the success of the content industry.

ViXS is leveraging its strong customer relationships to maintain its leadership position and stay ahead of market needs. XCodePro products are currently deployed in top tier operator networks including NBC/Universal, ABC News, ESPN, CNN, FOX, ASTRA/SES, Time Warner Cable, Cox Cable, Comcast (News - Alert), and Dish Network. XCodePro products address the following applications:

  • Traditional broadcast encoding and transcoding
  • Primary and secondary distribution
  • Adaptive Bit Rate Cloud streaming
  • Satellite, IPTV (News - Alert) and Cable operator delivery
  • Electronic newsgathering
  • Premium video delivery in hospitality

Feedback from key infrastructure product partners highlights how ViXS is driving the industry forward:

We are very excited to be working with ViXS to lead the deployment of professional broadcast distribution products with HEVC features of the Pro350," said Rob Robinett, CEO of Mystic Video.
