Alion Lands Order to Support Army's Project Manager Soldier Weapons ProgramDec 04, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- The Army's Project Manager Soldier Weapons (PM SW) program has a mandate to develop, produce and procure current and next-generation weapons systems and technologies to give soldiers a military advantage. Alion Science and Technology, a global engineering, R&D, IT and operational solutions company, will help support PM SW with this mission, under a $6 million engineering research and development task order, the Company noted in a release. Alion said that it will conduct research and development in studies and analyses of capabilities, effectiveness, project coordination, and guidance for both individual weapons and crew-served weapons for PM SW, a division within the Army's Program Executive Office Soldier. The scope of the effort covers other program managers and related Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center tasks. Alion will bring its experience in the areas of development engineering, program and acquisition support, logistics and materiel fielding planning. "This task order allows us to develop and rapidly deliver accelerated solutions for weapons systems, including integrated ammunition and associated target acquisition and fire-control products," said Chris Amos, Senior Vice President and Manager of Alion's Technology Solutions Group. "This mission-critical work will support warfighter needs, giving our troops an edge in the battlespace." Alion said the task order was awarded through the Weapons Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC) with the period of performance through December 2014. WSTIAC, operated by Alion, is one of nine Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Information Analysis Centers (IACs). The IACs house libraries of information that are focused on specific technology areas, in addition to providing technical experience in these areas. DTIC is headquartered at Fort Belvoir, VA, and serves the Department of Defense (DoD) by providing access to scientific and technical information for DoD personnel and contractors, including researchers, designers and engineers.
