Wavefront Receives GOA Funding to Facilitate International Exposure and Opportunity for Canadian Wireless Technology Companies

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, Nov 8, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- For the second year in a row, the Canadian Government has awarded funding to Wavefront, Canada's Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, through the Global Opportunities for Associations (GOA) program. As a result of the GOA funding, by the end of 2012, Wavefront will take more than 50 Canadian wireless companies to international events and market entry missions in key markets across Europe, the Middle East, South America, Africa and Asia.

Wavefront operates to accelerate the growth, commercialization and success of wireless companies in Canada by connecting them with critical resources, partners and opportunities. The GOA program is instrumental in helping to achieve this goal. As a GOA program recipient, Wavefront, in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), has designed a series of foreign market entry programs called WaveConnect, to provide Canadian wireless companies with the support and funding they need to successfully enter new global markets. For example, in 2011, more than 50 active sales leads were generated by 20 companies on three WaveConnect international market entry missions.

Included in the companies that participated in WaveConnect in 2012 was Colony Networks, who visited several countries in Europe as a part of the initiative. According to Colony Networks CEO Michael Kuhlmann, "The WaveConnect market entry program we participated in with Wavefront yielded extremely valuable results. It was targeted, well organized and time efficient, and we could not have put something like this together as quickly." "One of the biggest challenges that Canadian wireless companies face today is how to identify and connect with the critical partners, resources and opportunities that will enable them to grow and commercialize," states Brian Roberts, Vice President of International Development, Wavefront. "With the support of the GOA program and international trade commissioners, Wavefront has been able to establish market linkages that have enabled many critical international business opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach." "Our government is committed to growing our economy and creating good, new, high-value jobs for hard-working Canadians," said the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. "That is why we are helping our world-class industries expand and succeed abroad. Canada's ICT sector is robust and innovation-driven, producing exports worth $17.8 billion and employing nearly 556,000 employees. The funding provided to Wavefront through our GOA program will help our innovative ICT companies tap into new global markets." Canada is home to some of the most innovative wireless companies in the world, and the GOA program helps to accelerate their access to key decision makers and streamline their entry into valuable new markets.
