200 Mbps Over Copper with Velocity-3 Solution possible with Ikanos

Oct 12, 2012 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: IKAN), a provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, announced its newest broadband technology solution, Velocity-3, a fully integrated Vectored VDSL chipset and software solution offering a leap forward performance for delivering broadband to the digital home.

Ikanos' vectoring solution enables carriers to deliver bandwidth-intensive services such as high definition television, high speed Internet, bandwidth-rich cloud content access, Voice over IP and more at approximately 1/10th the cost of deploying a pure fibre solution to individual home.

"With Velocity-3, we are delivering the broadband 'holy grail': fibre speeds for a fraction of the cost of deploying fibre to individual homes," according to Omid Tahernia, chief executive officer at Ikanos. "Carriers benefit by super-charging their existing one billion copper line infrastructure, while satisfying consumers' needs for ever-increasing bandwidth applications." This performance breakthrough is made possible with Ikanos' NodeScale Vectoring technology. Supporting up to 384 copper lines in a fibre terminated installation, Velocity-3 identifies and cancels VDSL crosstalk from all lines in the vectored group, independent of binder, cable or chassis, increasing rate, reach, robustness and reliability.
