Verizon's 4G LTE network expands in South-eastern South Dakota communities today

Aug 16, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- US wireless communication services provider Verizon Wireless announced on Wednesday that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will be available in communities in south-eastern South Dakota from today.

The introduction of the company's 4G LTE network in south-eastern South Dakota is a part of Verizon's introduction of its 4G LTE network in 34 new markets and expansion in 38 other markets today.

The expanded 4G LTE coverage area will include the communities of Canton, Freeman, Parker, Viborg and Yankton, as well as the highways North of Yankton on US Highway 81 to Freeman; East of US Highway 81 on US Highway 18 and State Highway 44 to Interstate 29 and East from I-29 on US Highway 18 to the Iowa border.

In addition to expanding its 4G LTE network in South Dakota, Verizon is launching new coverage in the Aberdeen area today. The company first launched its 4G LTE network in Sioux Falls on 1 June 2011 followed by Rapid City on 16 November 2011. This year the company has also launched its 4G LTE network in Pierre, Mitchell, Brookings and Madison as well as communities east and west of Rapid City under its market expansion.

With these new and expanded markets the company said that its 4G LTE network will be available in a total of 371 markets and cover more than 75% of the US population. By year's end, the company plans for its 4G LTE network to cover more than 400 US markets.

Verizon's 4G LTE network offers customers speeds up to 10 times faster than before. In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon's 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ)(Nasdaq:VZ) and Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq:VOD).
