China's mobile healthcare industry to witness two-digit growth


BEIJING, Mar 28, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China's healthcare information technology industry is expected to witness two-digit growth annually in average with government support, and this will promote the development of network suppliers, system integrators and equipment manufacturers, reported Shanghai Securities News on Thursday.



The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will enhance the exploitation on the pilot of mobile healthcare service innovation, and explore the application of perception technology, location service and other information technologies in mobile healthcare, said Xu Yu, the head of the Department of Informatization Promotion of MIIT while attending the 2012 China Mobile Healthcare Industry Conference here.

The Implementation Plan on Deepening the Reform of Healthcare System in 2011-2015 issued by the State Council recently specified that information technologies must be implemented as key measures for enhancing the management efficiency and service standard of medical institutions.


With government input, private capital of the hospitals, venture capital and private equities, the smart healthcare will show swift development, and the healthcare informatization industry is to see two-digit growth, said CIConsulting.

As an information service, mobile healthcare will be a new booster facilitating the growth of relevant industries, and the industrial chain involves network suppliers, system integrators, equipment manufacturers, telecom operators, terminal product providers and software developers.

Chinese telecom operators have already set foot in the industry. China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK) has joined hands with Cambridge University in researching the application of mobile healthcare informatization.

Chinat Unicom (CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.SH) has established a "cloud computing storage" service platform for healthcare data collection, transmission and retrieval, as well as mobile healthcare rescue positioning and real-time transfer of vital signs.

China Telecom has launched mobile healthcare pilot in over 200 domestic hospitals.

According to statistics provided by China Institute of Communications, global mobile healthcare service applications will bring 11.5 billion yuan of revenues a year to the mobile carriers within five years. (Edited by Luo Jingjing, [email protected])
