BRIEF: Fibre-optic cables to cover the whole of Azerbaijan by 2016 [Trend News Agency, Baku, Azerbaijan]

(Trend News Agency (Azerbaijan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 22--A fibre-optic infrastructure will be extended to all regions of Azerbaijan by the end of 2015, deputy general director of the production association Aztelekom Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Mehman Hasanov told Trend on Wednesday,.

Mr Hasanov said that work in this direction is being carried out in the concept of broadband Internet access.

"We have already begun work on expanding broadband Internet services in 20 districts. Optic infrastructure will cover not only the regional centres, but also the villages" Mr Hasanov said.

He noted that, the state operator encouraged commercial ISPs to cooperate to expand broadband Internet access outside the capital for the first time. ISPs are provided with all necessary economic and technical conditions for business development in regional telecommunications operator sites, including remote villages.

Five internet service providers have already expressed their readiness to deploy broadband Internet in the regions through the Aztelekom infrastructure.

Many providers are afraid to build a business in the area as investment issues return to worry them.
