AARP Announces New Technology Chief; Industry Veteran Matt Mitchell Set to Helm AARP's Information Technology Solutions Division(Comtex Business Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)WASHINGTON, Mar 28, 2006 (U.S. Newswire via COMTEX) --Today, AARP announced the appointment of Matt Mitchell as AARP's Chief Information Officer (CIO). "Our IT organization is critical to AARP's ability to deliver value to our members and advance our advocacy goals," noted AARP Chief Operating Officer Tom Nelson. "I believe Matt's knowledge, experience and personal style will allow him to help lead our already strong IT organization to new levels of excellence." Beginning April 10, Mitchell will take direction of the technology experience for the largest nonprofit membership organization in the nation. With the baby boom generation accessing the Internet at a greater rate than previous generations, AARP seeks to provide a valuable online experience and expand the reach of the programs, products, services and information that it provides for people aged 50 and older. In addition, Mitchell will work to provide information technology (IT) solutions for AARP staff at their headquarters and 53 state offices. Nelson cited Mitchell's "demonstrated ability to bring strategic thinking, technical expertise and willingness to form strong collaborative relationships with business units" as key factors in the selection. Mitchell held a number of senior information technology positions during his career, most recently as vice president and CIO for Cenveo in Denver, where he worked closely with executive management and the Board of Directors to lead the corporate IT function. He began his career with PacifiCare Health Systems and spent time with US West Marketing as director of operations and database marketing.
