ESI Obtains Preliminary Injunction Order against All Ring Tech. Co., Ltd.

PORTLAND, Ore. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 10, 2005 -- ESI (Nasdaq:ESIO), a leading provider of world-class production laser systems for microengineering applications, today announced that the Kaohsiung District Court of Taiwan has executed a Preliminary Injunction Order directed against All Ring Tech. Co., Ltd. The Order prohibits All Ring from manufacturing, selling, offering for sale or using its Capacitor Tester Model No. RK-T6600, or importing the RK-T6600 for any of these purposes, until final judgment is entered in the formal patent infringement action that ESI has filed against All Ring. This action alleges that All Ring's RK-T6600 infringes ESI's Taiwan Patent No. NI-207469, which corresponds to ESI's U.S. Patent No. 5,842,579. A technical assessment report prepared by the Yen Tjing Ling Industrial Research Institute of the National Taiwan University concludes that the RK-T6600 infringes ESI's Taiwan patent. This report is available on ESI's web site. The patented technology is used in ESI's Model 3340 Multifunction MLCC tester.

"Over the years, ESI has made significant investments in research and development, and these investments have enabled the company to provide innovative system solutions to our customers. ESI intends to vigorously pursue its patent infringement claims against All Ring," said ESI President and Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Konidaris. "We plan to take advantage of every means available to protect our intellectual property rights in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region."
