Today Only: LivingSocial Offers $20 Amazon Gift Card for $10

January 19, 2011

Living Social is offering a deal that is “rarer than spotting a snow leopard, Halley's Comet, and Mark Wahlberg with a shirt on.”

Available only today, online shoppers can act fast and snag a $20 Amazon gift card for only $10 at the online savings site.

Users need only to sign up with the site to receive that half-price deal. The site asks the user’s email address and relative region of residence. After the $10 is paid, users will receive a code via email to be used on all goods available on Amazon—and the deal comes without an expiration date.

The gift card is, however, only available at one per person. However, the site has not yet indicated any notion of “while supplies last.”

The site is similar to competitor Groupon in that it only offers one deal per day, and the Amazon gift card has already been purchased 795,985 times as of 4:30 p.m. ET.

Last December, Amazon invested $175 million in the social coupon service in an effort to expand its already prominent presence in e-commerce areas.

LivingSocial, which is based in Washington, D.C., offers deals in 120 locations; over 10 million subscribers receive its daily e–mails.

The daily deals generated more that $1 million in revenue each day last December, and expects to make more than $500 million in revenue from the deals in 2011.
