January 08, 2014

With the integration of Google Glass in its upcoming automobile, Genesis, the Korean car maker Hyundai is all set to take connected car experience to an all new exciting height.

Hyundai’s BlueLnk technology has already enabled the car owners to reap the benefits of in-car connectivity for calling for SOS Emergency Assistance, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Eco-Coach, Restaurant Ratings, and finding out gas station locations and prices. While BlueLink is increasingly gaining in popularity among the smart phone users, the Google Glass integration marks the debut of Hyundai's deployment of wearable technology.

At the Consumer Electronics Show, the cloud engagement platform expert Covisint Corporation announced its flexible, cloud-based platform will enable the Genesis owners to access vital vehicle information through Google Glass. Powered by Covisint platform, the werable device will enable the Genesis car owners to access owner services, vehicle safety services and other  infotainment and applications.

In the press conference, Barry Ratzlaff, the executive director of Customer Connect and Service Business Development for Hyundai Motor America, said that for the car owners, the potential uses of Google Glass are practically endless. From remote starting of the car to searching point-of-interest (POI), from understanding vehicle location to getting nearby gas information and roadside assistance information, the Google Glass integration is likely to improve Hyundai's connected owner experience dramatically.

In addition, Covisint's flexible platform will also enable the car owners to get fuel alerts, vehicle health reports, diagnostic and maintenance alerts, temperature and HVAC controls and access to Blue Link call center among others.

“Google Glass offers an innovative opportunity for Hyundai to define and extend the customer brand experience outside of the vehicle. Hyundai Blue Link, combined with Google Glass and powered by Covisint cloud technology, delivers a unique experience for customers that makes popular features and functions even more convenient to access. The potential uses are endless,” Ratzlaff commented in a statement.

“The new 'Internet of Things' reality -- with billions of connected devices coming online -- rewards companies and technology that place the owner at the center of the digital-auto equation. Hyundai is a bold innovator that listens and responds to its customers, and Covisint is proud to provide the platform to help redefine our customers' path to automotive and business success,” Covisint president and CEO David McGuffie noted in a statement.
