United HealthCare Expands Call Center Presence in Wisconsin

August 22, 2012

Wisconsin has some small amount of good news on the jobs front this week with an announcement that health insurance company UnitedHealthcare will add approximately 169 new customer service jobs in its Green Bay call center facility.

UnitedHealth Group CEO Steve Hemsley was joined by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble for the announcement, which was made yesterday.

The new call center positions will bring UnitedHealthcare's total tally of jobs in Wisconsin to approximately 7,300. According to the Green Bay Herald Online, these new jobs will include 135 customer care professionals who assist and educate individual consumers in health insurance plan selection and enrollment, ways to manage their health and well-being, and how to maximize health plan benefits and personal health care dollars.

Other positions to be added will include specialized customer service representatives for UnitedHealthcare subscribers with Medicare benefits. The hiring marks a 32 percent expansion of the Green Bay customer services operation, which handled 3.2 million inquiries from members across the U.S. last year.

“Wisconsin is ‘open for business,’ and we have chosen to expand our workforce here because of the state’s determination to bring dependable, rewarding employment to its communities and for its commitment to improving access to higher-quality health care for consumers,” said Hemsley.

“Northeastern Wisconsin is a great place for business with a well-educated workforce to support growth,” said Governor Walker. “These new UnitedHealthcare jobs signal how important the health care sector is in creating new jobs and providing opportunities for the workforce across Wisconsin. I look forward to their future success.”

Rep. Ribble noted that his district welcomed the well-paying jobs.

“I am proud that UnitedHealthcare chose Green Bay for this expansion,” said Congressman Ribble. “I wholeheartedly support any effort to create good-paying jobs in northeast Wisconsin, and it’s encouraging that UnitedHealthcare has the confidence that Wisconsin's high-quality workforce will get the job done,” added.
