Roman Silberfeld Elected Dean of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers

Roman Silberfeld, Robins Kaplan LLP®'s national trial chair, has been elected dean of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), an exclusive body of civil and criminal trial lawyers from 30 different countries worldwide. Membership in the IATL is by invitation only, and limited to 500 fellows from the United States.

"Roman's election as dean of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers confirms what his colleagues at Robins Kaplan already know: he is an exceptionally talented trial lawyer and a true leader in the profession," said Martin Lueck, partner and chair of the Executive Board of Robins Kaplan, and fellow of the Academy.

Silberfeld has earned more than 50 trial victories, including a $319 million judgment against Walt Disney (News - Alert) in a case over profits from ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." The verdict he secured in that trial is the largest ever obtained in a Hollywood accounting lawsuit. In a career spanning more than four decades, he has performed groundbreaking work in asbestos and mass tort litigation and is considered a leading class action attorney. In oe series of actions over LCD displays, he recovered more than $400 million for national retailer Best Buy (News - Alert).

"For years, I've been honored to be a member of the IATL. Now, I very much look forward to advancing its goals as dean," said Silberfeld.

Silberfeld's generosity in sharing his insights has made him a leader within Robins Kaplan and among the professional community of trial lawyers. After serving as Robins Kaplan's managing partner in Los Angeles for two decades, he was appointed as the firm's national trial chair. In that role, he lends his perspective to all cases heading to trial. Last year, he was selected to serve as chairman of the advisory board of the newly launched Civil Justice Research Institute, which will conduct independent research on access to U.S. courts. He also belongs to the Commission for Impartial Courts, dedicated to preserving judicial independence in California.

For his career-long commitment to consumers, children, and others in need, Silberfeld was recently honored by Public Counsel with its Founders Award. Public Counsel has given the award to just five other individuals in the last 45 years.

In addition to Silberfeld and Lueck, Robins Kaplan's partnership includes two other members of the IATL: Lawrence Farese, who is currently serving the last of a three-year term on the IATL Board of Directors, and Kathleen Flynn Peterson, who earlier this month was named the recipient of the 2017 Minnesota Women Lawyers' Myra Bradwell Award for exhibiting the highest ideals of the legal profession.
