United States : HP choses GOOGLE over MICROSOFT [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dismissing Microsoft's Windows version, HP chose Google's Android operating system for it's new tablet computer.

Announcing the HP Slate7 prior to the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Apple's competitor in the market said the Android Jelly Bean device features a 7-inch diagonal screen and weighs 13 ounces.

The move to Google enables the product to provide the complete Google experience with services such as Google Now, Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive and Google+ Hangout.

Senior vice president, Mobility Global Business Unit, HP, Alberto Torres, said : 'To address the growing interest in tablets among consumers and businesses alike, HP will offer a range of form factors and leverage an array of operating systems. Our new HP Slate7 on Android represents a compelling entry point for consumer tablets, while business-ready HP ElitePad on Windows 8 is ideal for enterprises and governments'.

He added : 'When we looked at creating a real killer product for consumers, a very portable, very entertainment-focused device, we thought that Android was the better choice. Both will deliver the service and support people expect from HP.' But still Torres, who earlier served Nokia, insists that Microsoft would not be cast out of the tablet, saying : 'Of course, we continue to work closely with Microsoft on other products as well.'
