CCA Works with FCC and Industry to Develop Rules for Signal Boosters

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 -- The Rural Cellular Association issued the following news release: Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) adopted a Report and Order establishing rules for the use of consumer and industrial signal boosters. Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) is pleased the FCC adopted many of the proposals, in particular the carrier consent requirement, CCA advanced in this proceeding as a consensus among its membership.

In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, "I am encouraged by the Commission's recognition that clear rules of the road are needed for the operation of signal boosters. Today's efforts by the FCC provide improved technical requirements for signal boosters, which will help prevent consumers and wireless networks from experiencing harmful interference. I am also pleased that the Commission has approved a carrier consent requirement coupled with a registration process, instead of its original 'license by rule' approach. The FCC is taking a common-sense approach to the practical concerns raised by signal boosters, and I applaud its work on this item." Berry continued, "Commissioner Clyburn correctly noted that wireless carriers and signal booster manufacturers share the common goal of improving consumers' wireless experiences. Providing wireless subscribers access to technology that helps to fill coverage gaps, while at the same time protecting incumbent licensees' airwaves from harmful interference is a shared step forward in achieving that goal."
