Alleged Craigslist robber waives hearing

Feb 13, 2013 (The Morning Call (Allentown - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man accused of robbing four people he met through Craigslist ads for cellphones gave up his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Jaylin J. Huggins, 20, of Allentown, allegedly set up several victims by posing as a buyer or seller of smartphones on the classified ad website, police said. The crimes all happened in January in arranged meeting spots in Allentown.

Huggins allegedly took cash, two iPhones and a Samsung smartphone in the robberies, according to court records. No one was injured in any of the robberies.

Huggins is charged with four counts each of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property. After waiving his hearing before District Judge Rod Beck, Huggins was returned to Lehigh County Prison.

According to a criminal complaint: Huggins robbed a woman of her iPhone 4 on Jan. 11 at Second and Chew. Hours later, he robbed a man looking to buy a phone at Fifth and Turner streets. Huggins made off with the man's $300 and pulled a gun when the victim began to chase him.

Two days later, he pulled a gun on a woman in the 200 block of N. Fifth Street and robbed her of her Samsung phone.

The next day, Huggins pulled a similar robbery, taking an iPhone from an 18-year-old man. He was arrested following that robbery. The victim in that case was later charged with stealing the iPhone, according to court records.
