BRIEF: Manchester Police Recover Stolen School Computers

MANCHESTER, Jan 28, 2013 (The Hartford Courant - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Police have recovered computers that were stolen from Bowers Elementary School in November, police said Monday.

The computers appear to be functional, Police Chief Marc Montminy said. The investigation into the burglary continues, and no arrests were announced.

Fourteen laptpop computers and other equipment were stolen from the school some time over the long weekend of Nov. 9-12. A thief or thieves got in through an unlocked window, police have said.

On Jan. 20, police officers investigating a suspicious activity complaint at 38 Hillside St. found the 14 Apple laptops, two desktop computers and other electronic items inside an unlocked shed attached to the abandoned house at that address. The items matched those stolen from the school, police said.

There was an outpouring of generosity after the thefts, including a $2,000 donation from Jill Merriam of Key Hyundai. Interim School Superintendent Richard Kisiel said Monday that he is inclined to call donors and ask if they want their money returned. Kisiel said the recovered computers will go back into use in the school.
