CTIA--The Wireless Association® Statement on the FCC's Opening of a Proceeding on CTIA's Temporary Towers Petition for Rulemaking and the Broadband Acceleration Initiative Actions

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- CTIA-The Wireless Association® Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Christopher Guttman-McCabe issued the following statement: "CTIA welcomes today's actions that set in motion key initiatives to streamline and expedite wireless infrastructure siting. CTIA is particularly pleased that the Commission has formally opened a proceeding on a Petition filed last month by CTIA enabling providers to set up temporary towers in response to unanticipated events that present significant short-term capacity issues. We express our gratitude to the Chairman and Commissioners, as well as the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, for working to bring additional clarity, certainty, and hopefully alacrity to the siting process. We thank Commissioner Rosenworcel for her efforts to highlight the importance of model siting policies and Commissioner Pai for highlighting infrastructure issues at our recent MobileCON 2012 show.

"As the American public relies on mobile wireless broadband services in more and more aspects of their lives, wireless infrastructure siting plays a central part in advancing broadband deployment, universal service and public safety. We look forward to working with the Commission and all interested stakeholders to expedite and streamline wireless infrastructure deployment to ensure that wireless consumers can take advantage of the benefits of wireless broadband."
