Fatal fire in Linda trailer park

Jan 02, 2013 (Appeal-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 35-year-old man died early Wednesday in a trailer fire in Linda.

Shawn Seawater was found dead inside the trailer at the Casa Mia Mobile Home Park at 2019 Hammonton-Smartsville Road, the Yuba County Coroners Office said.

Linda Fire Chief Rich Webb called the trailer "a total loss." "The neighbors said (Seawater) was home, but the fire was so extensive they had to fight their way inside to search. And they did find the body, but he was already deceased," Webb said.

Webb said the fire started in the kitchen near the stove, and is not considered suspicious.

"This appears accidental," Webb said.

Firefighters were called around 12:20 a.m. About 20 firefighters responded from Linda and CalFire-Marysville. They stayed on scene until about 4:30 a.m.

Webb said the older model mobile home sustained about $20,000 to $30,000 in damage.

Family members declined to comment Wednesday morning.

Neighbor Ricardo Aguilar said he could see smoke bellowing from the house on his way home. He followed responding sheriff's vehicles to the burning house.

"It was bad. There were flames coming out of the windows big time," he said.

Aguilar stood outside with his wife, hoping that no one was trapped inside, he said.

Seawater's mother was working in San Jose, said Ernesto Calderon, the park manager. Calderon said Seawater had moved into the home a few weeks earlier, but the family had been living there for more than six years.

Seawater's body was found inside a front room of the home. The cause of death was not immediately clear.

Yuba County Undersheriff Jerry Read said an autopsy would be scheduled for Thursday, but said it did not appear he had been burned in the fire. Foul play is not suspected.
