Hearing on Norway cell tower postponed to Jan. 10

NORWAY, Dec 28, 2012 (Sun Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Planning Board has delayed the public hearing on an application to locate a wireless communications tower on Frost Hill until Jan. 10.

The hearing was set for Thursday night, but cancelled due to the snowstorm.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, in the town hall.

Earlier this month, the board unanimously voted to accept the application by Global Tower Partners of Boca Raton, Fla., and Northeast Wireless Networks of Falmouth as complete.

The company wants to construct a 190-foot tower on a 10.75 acres at 209 Frost Hill Road. The land is owned by Roberta Wilner.

If approved, this will be the first GTP communications tower on Frost Hill, according to company officials.

The unlit, lattice-style tower structure will have space for utilities and municipal services, including the Norway Fire Department's emergency antenna, and a repeater. Northeast Wireless Networks will be the first tenant to install telecommunications equipment and antenna arrays to provide service to AT&T network customers, according to information on the application.

The tower will be constructed within a 5,625-square-foot fenced area, part of the 10,000-square-foot area being leased. It will be surrounded by an 8-foot-tall chain-link fence, topped with three strands of barbed wire.

The Planning Board may make a decision on the application Jan. 10 and a review to ensure the application meets the town's performance standards. If approved, construction is expected to begin within 30 days and be completed within 45 days.
