Cops: Boy, 15, wounded trying to carjack Chicago State police officer

Dec 04, 2012 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 15-year-old boy was shot and wounded after he and another teen used Twitter to lure an off-duty Chicago State University police officer to the South Side and then tried to carjack his SUV, police said.

The teens had arranged to meet the 37-year-old officer around 5 p.m. Monday in the 2200 block of East 87th Street to sell him a new iPhone, according to a police report. When the officer and a 16-year-old boy pulled up in a 2001 gray Toyota Sequoia, the 15-year-old pulled out a gun and shouted, "Give me everything or I'll blow it up,'' police said.

The 15-year-old then ordered the officer to give him the keys to the SUV as a 17-year-old, Kurits Flowers, acted as lookout, the report said.

The officer identified himself and fired his gun, hitting the 15-year-old as the teens fled the scene with $150 and an iPhone they stole, the report said.

The wounded teen was dropped off at Advocate Trinity Hospital. As he was being treated, authorities found a white iPhone 4 that was taken from the passenger and the $150, the police report said.

The 15-year-old was placed under arrest and transferred to Stroger Hospital. After his release, he was placed in a lineup and identified by the victims, the report said.

Flowers was arrested as he tried to hide on a front porch in the 8700 block of South Crandon Avenue, police said.

Both teens have been charged with felony armed robbery, according to Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
