Team Lean: Starting point for a healthy lifestyle

MOULTRIE, Dec 03, 2012 (The Moultrie Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Moultrie YMCA's Team Lean competition has provided hundreds of individuals with the starting point they needed to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Team Lean is a community wide weight-loss competition to lose the highest percentage of weight for individuals or teams throughout a 10-week span. The competition begins just after the New Year, to help give participants a good start to those New Year Resolutions.

"Team Lean is a great weight-loss program for individuals because it provides that extra support and accountability they need to stay committed to a healthier lifestyle," said Felicia Richardson, community wellness coordinator at the Moultrie YMCA. "Team Lean is not just about losing pounds, it is about offering participants a new way to look at their health and well-being." The yearly competition continues to make an impact on individuals' weight loss with last year's participants losing a total of 1,564.20 pounds by the end of the competition. Last year's individual winner, Allan Pierce, lost a total of 15.33 percent of body weight. Team winner "Double Stuffed Oreos" won first place with 16.62 percent total weight loss.

Registration for the 2013 Team Lean began Monday at the Moultrie YMCA.

Participants compete in teams of three or as individuals to see who loses the highest percentage of weight at the end of 10 weeks. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top individuals and teams.

Fees for the 2013 Team Lean competition are $50 per person for YMCA members and $75 per person for potential YMCA members.

Team Lean is a communitywide weight loss competition sponsored by the Moultrie YMCA and Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
