TSMC: 18-Inch Chip Plant into Mass Production 6 Years Later
XINZHU, Sep 06, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TSMC, NYSE: TSM) plans to put an 18-inch chip plant into mass production six years later, according to news on September 5.
TSMC will also invite many Taiwan-based semiconductor device and material producers to research and develop related equipments. The producers will become important partners of TSMC to help develop the plant.
TSMC stated that it was honored to be one of the rare companies to be able to develop an 18-inch chip plant which requires very expensive equipment. The company disclosed it had chosen several major partners to provide equipments and materials for its plant at initial stage. The partners include an ion implanting machine manufacturer and an electron beam equipment producer.
