Vivacom selects Alcatel-Lucent's gigabit passive optical networking solution

Sep 05, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Alcatel-Lucent, a provider of telecommunications solutions, has announced that Vivacom, a provider of communications services, has selected Alcatel-Lucent's gigabit passive optical networking, or GPON, solution.

Bulgaria supports the EU's Digital Agenda which has set goals of providing speeds of 100Mbps to half of European households and 30Mbps to all European households by 2020.

The large increase in available broadband speeds is necessary to support faster download and upload speeds coming from high-definition video, 3D television and interactive gaming, multimedia communication, public online services, machine-to-machine communications, and user-created content.

Vivacom will be providing 100Mbps to customers in the cities of Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv in 2012 with additional cities to follow.

Luc Patie, Alcatel-Lucent Director in Bulgaria said: "As the worldwide leader in fixed broadband access, supporting the largest mass deployments of video, voice and data services, Alcatel-Lucent will bring best practices and solid experience to support Vivacom in continuing to upgrade its network." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
