(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Murdoch scandal follows classic media baron scriptLONDON (AP) _ If the phone hacking scandal gripping Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. empire has a familiar ring, it might be because you've heard the story before. Scrappy outsider turns modest newspaper business into international media conglomerate. Ambition turns to hubris. Mogul dramatically falls from grace. From William Randolph Hearst to Rupert Murdoch, many media barons' stories follow a familiar arc.

San Franciscans bring startup approach to homelessSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Optimism reigns in San Francisco, especially when it comes to the seeming promise of technology to improve people's lives. Recently, a crowd of engineers, entrepreneurs and designers came together for a weekend of intense work and little sleep to figure out how technology could help people who don't have roofs over their heads, much less web browsers.

Yahoo CEO faces calls for ouster after inaccuracySAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Scott Thompson's reign as Yahoo's CEO is in jeopardy after just four months on the job because he allowed an inaccuracy about his academic credentials to recur for years. A major Yahoo shareholder who exposed the fabrication is now leading the charge to oust Thompson for unethical conduct. In a letter Friday, activist hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb demanded that the board of the struggling Internet company fire Thompson by noon EDT Monday or face possible legal action.

Verdict in Oracle-Google trial likely MondaySAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ A federal jury in San Francisco is expected to deliver at least a partial verdict Monday in a copyright-infringement trial pitting Oracle against Google. The 12 jurors informed U.S. District Judge William Aslup that they have unanimously agreed on three of the four issues at stake in the opening round of the trial. The jury foreman says there appears to be an impasse on the remaining issue.

Internet group: Quality over speed in new domainsNEW YORK (AP) _ The organization in charge of expanding the number of Internet address suffixes _ the ".com" part of domain names _ is apologizing for delays but says it's favoring "quality, not speed." Three weeks ago, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers abruptly shut down a system for letting companies and organizations propose new suffixes, after it discovered a software glitch that exposed some private data. At the time, ICANN planned to reopen the system within four business days. The system remains suspended indefinitely.

Experts unlike ruling in Facebook speech caseNORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ The "like" button on Facebook seems like a relatively clear way to express your support for something, but a federal judge says that doesn't mean clicking it is constitutionally protected speech. Exactly what a "like" means _ if anything _ played a part in a case in Virginia involving six people who say Hampton Sheriff B.J. Roberts fired them for supporting an opponent in his 2009 re-election bid, which he won. The workers sued, saying their First Amendment rights were violated.

After foreign haul, 'Battleship' faces choppy seasLOS ANGELES (AP) _ "Battleship," the first in a string of movies based on Hasbro board games, has survived an armada of tomato-throwing critics and chugged to $170 million in ticket sales overseas. Yet it faces choppy seas as it steams toward its U.S. debut on May 18. What might sink "Battleship" is competition from other hotly expected blockbusters, including the superhero adventure "The Avengers," which opens Friday, and Sony's long-awaited "Men in Black III," which rolls out May 23.

Facebook valued at up to $95B in IPO price rangeNEW YORK (AP) _ Facebook, the company that turned the social Web into a cultural and business phenomenon, is worth as much as $95 billion, according to the price range for its upcoming initial public offering of stock. Facebook's IPO, expected in a couple of weeks, would be the biggest ever for an Internet company. Facebook disclosed the price range of $28 to $35 per share in a regulatory filing Thursday.

New rage keeps Somali boys off street: video gamesMOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) _ Inside a hot, cramped room in the Somali capital, 10 sweating children sat on wooden desks, not unlike those found in schools. These boys, though, were not in class. They were staring at a small TV and tightly gripping video-game controllers. Video games are the new rage in Somalia, a first-world entertainment option for teenage boys that wasn't permitted when ultraconservative al-Shabab militants controlled the capital. The insurgents _ who were pushed out of Mogadishu last year by African Union and Somali troops _ banned recreational pleasures like movies and Nintendo.

Samsung reveals new flagship Galaxy smartphoneNEW YORK (AP) _ Samsung Electronics Co.'s latest Galaxy phone will have a high-definition touch screen that's nearly twice the size of the iPhone, while being thinner and lighter than Apple's phone. The Galaxy line has emerged as the biggest competitor to the iPhone. Samsung said the Galaxy S III will go on sale in Europe on May 29 and in the U.S. this summer. The Korean company showed off the phone Thursday at an event in London.
