General Electric Assigned Patent

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) By Targeted News Service ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 29 -- General Electric, Niskayuna, N.Y., has been assigned a patent (8,165,266) developed by six co-inventors for a "transverse scanning bone densitometer and detector used in same." The co-inventors are James Wear, Madison, Wis., David Ergun, Verona, Wis., Robert Washenko, Madison, Wis., Michael Bucholz, Oregon, Wis., Darrell Gorsuch, Pardeeville, Wis., and Randall Payne, Madison, Wis.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A scanning bone densitometer includes an x-ray source to produce x-rays and an x-ray detector receiving x-rays emitted from the x-ray source. The x-ray detector includes a cadmium tellurium (CdTe) semiconductor. The scanning bone densitometer also includes a controller moving the x-ray source and the x-ray detector along a transverse scanning path to acquire a plurality of scan images of an object of interest." The patent application was filed on Sept. 10, 2009 (12/557,314).
