Inmar CEO's Earth Day Message: Solutions That Are Responsible Environmentally and Fiscally Are Truly Sustainable

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --(Business Wire)--

Saying that Inmar was environmentally friendly before sustainability was cool may sound corny, but leading manufacturers and retailers have depended on Inmar's solutions to help promote regulatory compliant handling of their products, reduce risk and lower the impact of inefficient processes since the company began processing coupons and product returns more than 30 years ago. Today, Inmar holds numerous awards for its green solutions, which are offered through all three of its commerce networks - Promotion, Supply Chain and Pharmaceutical.

"Inmar's focus has always been to help commerce operate more intelligently, so sustainability has been at the heart of our value proposition throughout our history," says Inmar CEO David Mounts. "We pioneered one-count processing for both coupon processing and pharmaceutical product returns more than 17 years ago. By eliminating the need to transport product or coupons for redundant processing, we reduce unnecessary transportation and the resulting carbon footprint." He adds that, "Our new digital promotion technology is carrying such sustainable innovation forward."

Inmar approaches sustainability broadly, eliminating waste -- regardless of source - in product that goes to landfill, in redundant processes, and in inefficient transportation models that increase carbon footprint and drive up cost. In doing so, Inmar helps clients minimize the supply chain's negative impact on the environment. And, as a leader in he digital promotion industry, Inmar is enabling manufacturers and retailers reduce resource consumption by increasing distribution of digital (i.e., paperless) coupons.

Working on behalf of its clients, Inmar's remarketing services kept approximately 117 million pounds of grocery and consumer goods out of landfills in 2011. Additionally, the company's donation program provided about 1.8 million boxes of food product that was used to create approximately 5.5 million meals for the needy in 2011. This product otherwise would have gone to waste and would have been added to our landfills.

Inmar supply chain services, such as packaging studies, have also helped clients reduce product packaging, while helping ensure that new, more environmentally friendly packaging does not increase damage to product (which ultimately results in creation of waste).

Inmar is currently introducing SafeSTORxTM, a system for retail store-level management of hazardous waste and/or non-viable product. In 2010, Inmar implemented transportation analysis capabilities to help clients determine the most efficient distribution of product in both the forward and reverse chains. This supply chain technology enables clients to utilize the most appropriate facilities within Inmar's nationwide network while optimizing use of their own existing infrastructure. The results have been compelling within a relatively short timeframe.

With strategically located facilities nationwide, Inmar can consolidate shipments and keep product in smaller geographic areas. This not only reduces costs for clients, but also results in a much smaller carbon footprint with millions of transportation miles saved. In 2011, Inmar calculations show that its sustainability initiatives helped convert approximately 3.4 tons of waste to energy, saving more than 3,880 barrels of oil, generating about 2,185 MWh of renewable energy and creating enough to power approximately 190 homes for one year.

Says Mounts, "Solutions that are responsible environmentally and fiscally are truly sustainable."
