Iqaluit Resident Joins Northwestel Board of Directors

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 17 April 2012 Release date- 16042012 - Northwestel is pleased to announce the appointment of Elisapee Sheutiapik to the company's Board of Directors.

'She brings excellent leadership qualities and an invaluable northern perspective to this group. Her commitment to the North and its residents will serve us well.' Raised and educated in Iqaluit, Elisapee has held various financial administration positions with the territorial governments (NWT and NU) and with Nunavut's Land Claim organization, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI).

Elisapee was elected Mayor of Iqaluit in 2003 and served until December 13th, 2010, when she resigned. She also served as the Nunavut Association of Municipalities' (NAM) president from May 2006 to October 2008 and was re-elected to the position in August 2009. As NAM president, Elisapee was the Nunavut representative on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) Board of Directors and the FCM's Northern Forum Caucus vice-chair for the 2006 and 2007 terms.

Elisapee is a member of Pauktuutit, a national Inuit women's organization and was recently re-elected President for another three year term at the Pauktuutit Annual General Meeting in March 2012. She currently owns and operates the Grind & Brew, an Iqaluit coffee specialty shop and catering service. She is an avid sports enthusiast, a collector of arts and crafts and lapel pins, and the proud mother of two sons.
