Oracle skewers Google as Android trial opensSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Oracle began Monday trying to convince a jury that Google's top executives have long known that they stole a key piece of technology to build the Android software that now powers more than more than 300 million smartphones and tablet computers. The unflattering portrait of Google Inc. was drawn by Oracle lawyer Michael Jacobs in the opening phase of a complex trial pitting two Silicon Valley powerhouses in a battle delving into the often mind-numbing minutiae of intellectual property and computer coding.

Judges, journalists clash over courtroom tweetsCHICAGO (AP) _ Getting news from a big trial once took days, moving at the speed of a carrier pigeon or an express pony. The telegraph and telephone cut that time dramatically, as did live television broadcasts. Now comes Twitter with more changes, breaking up courtroom journalism into bite-size reports that take shape as fast as a reporter can tap 140 characters into a smartphone. But the micro-blogging site is increasingly putting reporters on a collision course with judges who fear it could threaten a defendant's right to a fair trial.

Rebates to cut price of $60 LED bulbNEW YORK (AP) _ How much would you pay for an amazing, state-of-the-art light bulb? Shoppers will be asking themselves that very question at Home Depot and other outlets starting Sunday _ Earth Day _ when the bulb that won a $10 million government contest goes on sale. The bulb is the most energy-efficient yet, lasts about 20 years and is supposed to give off a pleasing, natural-looking light. But what separates it from the pack most is the price: $60.

FCC fines Google $25,000 over Street View probeNEW YORK (AP) _ The Federal Communications Commission has fined Google $25,000, saying the online search leader impeded an investigation into how it collected data while taking photos for its "Street View" mapping feature. The FCC said in a report from Friday that Google Inc. "deliberately impeded and delayed" the investigation for months. The agency said that the online search leader did this by not responding to requests for information and documents.

YouTube, Google Play add 600 MGM movies for rentLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Google is adding 600 movies from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to the titles it has available for rent on YouTube and also Google Play, its digital content store for Android-powered mobile devices. MGM, whose film library includes classics like "Rocky" and "Rain Man," joins five other major studios offering movies for rent through Google: Viacom Inc.'s Paramount, Comcast Corp.'s Universal, Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. and The Walt Disney Co.

Ahead of the Bell: Oracle-Google trialSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Oracle and Google are set to face each other in court in San Francisco on Monday. The dispute hinges on Oracle's allegations that Google's widely used Android software for mobile devices infringes on copyrights and patents that Oracle acquired when it bought Sun Microsystems Inc. for $7.3 billion in 2010. The technology in question is Java, a programming language that has been around since the 1990s.

Man linked to 'Anonymous' pleads not guiltySALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ An Ohio man linked to the hacker collective "Anonymous" pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of breaching the websites of the Utah Chiefs of Police Association and the Salt Lake City Police Department. John Anthony Borell III took credit for the attacks on Twitter, said FBI officials, who subpoenaed the direct messages the suspect traded with Salt Lake City reporters. The FBI traced Borell's Twitter account to a workplace computer.

NJ mayor no superhero? Au contraire, say tweetsNewark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker insisted he wasn't a hero when he rescued a neighbor from the smoke-filled second-floor bedroom of her burning home as embers fell on both of them, leaving the woman seriously injured and him with a burned hand. He was just being a friend, he said _ and besides, he was terrified. Au contraire, said those who flocked to Twitter at (hash)corybookerstories Friday, competing to see who could capture the 6-foot-3 former college football player's toughness and heroism in the most entertaining fashion.
