United States : VTel to offer IPTV via building of 100G optical network [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vermont Telephone Company (VTel) has decided to enhance its service capacities via use of an optical network of 100G and constructing a platform in order to offer IPTV service from Alcatel-Lucent. The telecom company is one of the prime residual family-run self-governing telecom firms, which will rely on coherent optical suite of Alcatel-Lucent, together with its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), plus 7750 Service Router, as well as OmniSwitch 9800E Metro Ethernet switch in order to deploy100G.

Regarding the IPTV segment, which is based on the Mediaroom middleware platform of Microsoft, Alcatel-Lucent will play the role of a systems integrator. Moreover, it will offer and set up its own 5620 Service Aware Manager for basic management of the IPTV network.

Apart from offering the customer services, this most recent exploitation will enlarge the obtainable 1,000 mile four-state optical fiber network of VTel out of Vermont and New York City, Boston, and Montreal.

In order to achieve these new extensions of network efforts, Vermont is to leverage its 2010 s financial support meant for its Wireless Open World (WOW) hybrid Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) and 4G/LTE wireless network. Through the use of FTTP network, along with utilization of Calix s ONTs, it will provide up to 1 Gpbs speeds to both household as well as business clients. VTel was granted a broadband stimulus endowment worth $12 million by the NTIA in July 2010 and after that the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) offered a $116 million funding in August 2010.
