Renater selects BT as preferred network services and equipment supplier

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BT today announced a contract with the French National Telecommunications Network for Technology, Education and Research (RENATER), to supervise, manage and operate its fibre-based IP network, and to supply and maintain infrastructure equipment. The contract covers BT Advise Connect services. BT and RENATER have been working together since 2000.

The RENATER national network includes leading research bodies such as the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), the CPU (Conference of French University Presidents), the CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission), the INRIA (French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control), the CNES (French Government Space Agency), the INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research), the INSERM (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), the ONERA (French Aerospace Lab), the CIRAD (International Cooperation Centre for Agricultural Research for Development), the IRSTEA (French National Research Institute of Science and Technology for Environment and Agriculture), the IRD (French Research Institute for Development), the BRGM (France's leading public institution in Earth science applications) along with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of National Education. The network connects more than 1,300 sites in France and internationally.

"Further to the 2011 call for tenders to renew our network's administration and operation, BT submitted the best bid with respect to our technical and financial criteria. We are pleased to be able to count on BT to support us in modernising and developing the capacity of our network" says Patrick Donath, director of RENATER.

BT will assist RENATER in managing, operating and supervising its fibre-based IP network 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. RENATER's technical reach covers hundreds of devices, at 300 different geographical locations in metropolitan France and in French overseas territories. BT will also provide and maintain equipment from the major network equipment providers.

BT Advise Connect is a global team of experts in the field of network services. With around fifteen BT Advise Connect specialists on site, trained in the RENATER environment and with a readily available operational infrastructure, BT provides RENATER with operating and maintenance services at an optimal cost, right from the project start-up and implementation phase. BT has also adapted and transformed the management tools to best meet the requirements of RENATER in terms of network visibility and reliability.

Corrado Sciolla, CEO of BT France, says "This longstanding partnership with RENATER is based on our ability to leverage on our expertise, to create synergies between the different teams working for the client, and to offer centralised management optimising the quality of services and related costs. With our BT Advise teams we are also prepared to support RENATER in the services area that they wish to reinforce, to enable their users to focus on their core business." About RENATER Set up at the start of the 90s, the French National Telecommunications Network for Technology, Education and Research, RENATER, ensures national and international connectivity via the GANT European network, for teaching and research establishments in metropolitan France and French overseas territories.

The RENATER network is the "partner network" for research and teaching. It encourages cooperation between French and international researchers (data transfer and acquisition, videoconferencing, computing grids, etc.), while offering a range of network services and applications. www.renater.fr ((M2 Communications disclaims all liability for information provided within M2 PressWIRE.
