Random acts given by Chad the Alltel guy

Apr 12, 2012 (The Newberry Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A number of locals were surprised when a commercial celebrity went around town preforming random acts of kindness yesterday.

"You are the Alltel guy, right?" asked a surprised Melissa Irons, as Chad the Alltel guy paid for her lunch yesterday at The Palms. "This is crazy." And so was the reaction of many as Chad treated them to free breakfast, lunch, doughnuts, signed autographs, posed for photos and even gave away free phones.

The day started at Bill and Fran's on Highway 34.

Dana White said the Alltel group came in and started mixing with a packed restaurant full of customers and paid for the breakfast of many.

White added she did not know about the appearance until the group walked in the door and asked if they could perform random acts of kindness.

She added the acts made for an interesting morning at the local breakfast gathering spot.

After purchasing a bunch of take out biscuits for local deputies, the Alltel crowd left for the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.

In addition to bringing biscuits, Chad took several boxes of doughnuts to the local deputies.

Sheriff Lee Foster said he knew the Alltel people were coming but did not know they were bringing doughnuts.

"The sheriff's office was amazing and they were all wearing polo shirts like in the commercial," said Chad. "It was also great to meet the people in the 911 office." In addition to thanking the deputies for their tireless efforts, the Alltel group even tried out cellular technology by calling 911 to watch their location be pin pointed and discussed other technology like texting to the department.

The Alltel spokesman then went to the Main Street Alltel store where Chad raised money for Relay for Life.

Then it was off to meet the lunch crowd at The Palms where they once again paid for lunch, signed autographs, posed for pictures and did more giveaways.
