Early morning blaze engulfs home

MAHER, Apr 12, 2012 (Williamson Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Chattaroy Volunteer Fire Department members were dispatched to the scene of a home on Rt. 52 between Millers Creek and the Maher community that was fully engulfed in flames, and was listed as a total loss.

According to information provided by CVFD Chief Joe Rumore, his firefighters were toned out by Mingo County 911 at approximately 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, and were on site at 12:25 a.m. Rumore responded with five men and two trucks, and requested mutualaEUR"aid from the Williamson Fire Department.

The two-story home was owned and occupied by Wallace "Brocky" Robinson, who lived alone. The chief said that the fire appeared to be blazing more in the center of the home when they arrived, but the exact cause and location of the origin of the fire remains unknown.

The reports state that Robinson was not able to save any of his belongings from the fire. The homeowner informed Rumore that he was unable to get his 2011 truck out of the garage before that section of the structure caught fire, as well as two jet-skis that were also destroyed.

Rumore said the total estimated loss for the home, vehicle and other items lost are estimated to be in the range of $170,000. Due to the extensive damage to the wood structure, the chief stated there would be no investigation since basically nothing was left standing except the foundation.

Rumore expressed his appreciation to the WFD for their assistance in controlling the blaze.
