CodeRED test calls tomorrow in Groveland

GROVELAND, Apr 12, 2012 (The Eagle-Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Town officials will be using the CodeRED Emergency Notification System to call the entire community in a practice run tomorrow.

The calls will be going out in the morning and will continue until the entire database has been attempted.

The calls will give emergency personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a communitywide disaster.

The message being delivered directs the recipients to the Groveland Police Department's website to add additional contact numbers, and it also asks that recipient spread the word by mentioning the system to family, friends and neighbors.

"All individuals and businesses should take the time to visit our website and add contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as email and text addresses," said Deputy police Chief Jeffrey Gillen, the town's Director of Emergency Management.

Gillen said those whose numbers are not in the database will not receive a call when an urgent message is sent.

"In particular, businesses should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number recently and those who use a cellular phone exclusively or who have VoIP phones such as Vonage, as their primary numbers," he said.
