Trinity PD lands reality TV show

HUNTSVILLE, Apr 11, 2012 (The Huntsville Item - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Prepare to be entertained. A new reality television show is coming to Trinity and will follow a group of law enforcement officers who are not afraid to have a little fun while keeping the community safe.

The Trinity Police Department will be featured on CMT in a 10-episode reality series called "Trinity 911," which will follow the officers when they are patrolling the streets, chilling around the office or off duty.

"We are really excited about it," TPD Chief Steven Jones said.

Jones said he could not comment further on what the show is about for confidentiality reasons, but he did say the "docu-comedy" will provide plenty of entertainment for viewers.

The show is being produced by Endemol USA, a leading producer of television programming which specializes in unscripted and scripted genres for network and cable television. The show was pitched to various networks and CMT announced it would pick up "Trinity 911" last week.

Here is a synopsis of the show provided in a press release on CMT's website: "The officers in tiny Trinity, Texas (population 2,656) may not have the world's highest crime rate to contend with, but keeping their small town safe from danger is a full-time job for this fun-loving crew. Whether they are tasering each other to pass the time or struggling through a donut-free workout with their new trainer, the Trinity PD is on the job 24/7, 365 days a year." The show is set to debut later this year.

The Trinity PD has picked up quite a following on its Facebook page by releasing mug shots of people recently arrested or wanted fugitives.

Jones said that his department wanted to utilize the social media site to fight crime and so far they have received plenty of positive feedback.

"Other agencies were doing it, so we decided to go all in," Jones said. "It helps us with crime. We put information out there and we get all kinds of responses to help us solve crimes. We recently had someone call us from Nebraska because they had seen a wanted person on our Facebook and had a lead. It did not turn out to be who we were looking for, but it is amazing how far away it reaches people." ___ (c)2012 The Huntsville Item (Huntsville, Texas) Visit The Huntsville Item (Huntsville, Texas) at www.itemonline.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
