NextWindow's Five-Touch Desktop Screen Debuts in Japan

Pleasanton, CA, Apr 11, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- NextWindow, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMART Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: SMT) (TSX: SMA), announces the NextWindow DesktopTouch 6S, the company's first six-camera, five-touch screen, will make its Japan debut at the 2012 Finetech Japan trade show in Tokyo. The high-profile event draws the world's top manufacturers of flat panel displays, parts and materials. The DesktopTouch 6S is groundbreaking new technology that will meet the requirements for supporting the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 8 touch-enabled operating system. With six cameras delivering consistent touch response across the entire display, users experience enhanced interaction on PCs and monitors. The DesktopTouch 6S is available in screen sizes ranging from 15" to 30" (38 to 76 cm). The new product will be showing April 11-13 in east hall 6, booth 47-31.

NextWindow's attention to price, performance and reliability has resulted in strong working relationships with major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs), and its screens are integrated with PCs and monitors produced by leading OEMs including HP, Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Samsung and NEC. NextWindow has developed optical technology-based touch screens for OEMs and manufacturers of large-format touch displays in Japan since 2002. To support expanding relationships with customers in Japan, NextWindow operates a sales and customer support office in Tokyo and also has offices in Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand, the United States and Taiwan.

"NextWindow's latest screen for touch PCs provides an entirely new platform for interactive application developers worldwide," says Geoff Walker, Principal Analyst, Touch Research with IMS Research. "The DesktopTouch 6S capabilities for five simultaneous touch points and multi-user experiences are monumental in comparison to two-touch technology for Windows 7, yet it's still 40 percent cheaper than competing desktop touch technologies." "The DesktopTouch 6S optical touch technology enhances user experience when using PCs and monitors and will support Microsoft Windows 8's new touch interface," says Rusty Stapp, Director of Major Accounts, NextWindow. "NextWindow has a strong relationship with many customers in Japan, and we look forward to demonstrating our new desktop touch screen at Finetec."
