BakeSpace.com's Cookbook Cafe eBook and App Publisher Earns Webby Award Honors

LOS ANGELES, CA, Apr 10, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- The 2012 Webby Awards have honored BakeSpace.com's new Cookbook Cafe publishing platform -- the first do-it-yourself digital publishing tool that enables anyone to create, market and sell a cookbook as both a native iPad App and a web-based eBook.

Cookbook Cafe was recognized in the competitive "Mobile & Apps: Social" category, along with apps from fellow honorees eHarmony and StumbleUpon.

In addition, the BakeSpace.com food social network and recipe swap site was honored by the Webby Awards for the sixth consecutive year, this time in the "Community" and "Food & Beverage" categories. Prior Webby Award honors include back-to-back nominations for "Best Social Network" in 2009 and 2010 (when BakeSpace.com was edged out by Digg.com and Twitter, respectively).

"This year's Webby's are especially sweet given the recognition for our Cookbook Cafe publishing platform," said BakeSpace.com Founder Babette Pepaj. "We worked hard to create a technology that democratizes cookbook publishing and makes it accessible for every home chef, group, brand and nonprofit organization with great recipes to share." In February, Cookbook Cafe was also nominated by the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Awards for "Outstanding Use of New Technology." Cookbook Cafe is free to use and works across different types of devices, including the iPad and any desktop or mobile computer using a standard web browser. The platform consists of three core components: 1) The free Cookbook Cafe iPad App with cookbook storefront and reader 2) A Web-based version of the storefront and reader accessible via any web browser 3) A web-based cookbook builder that automatically creates both a native iPad app and web-based version of each cookbook.

While the platform was created to make cookbook publishing and distribution more accessible to grassroots authors, it also transforms how home chefs access and use recipes in their cookbook library by enabling them to search each recipe individually by type, ingredient and author. This eliminates the need to search an entire cookbook (or multiple cookbooks) to find a specific recipe.

The free Cookbook Cafe iPad app also comes with helpful kitchen tools, including five separate multi-function timers that work even when the app is closed.

The Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) for what it deems "outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet."
