Computerworld Recognizes Dell for Support of Childhood Cancer Research

ROUND ROCK, Texas --(Business Wire)--

IDG's Computerworld Honors Program has recognized Dell (News - Alert) as a 2012 Laureate for its commitment of funding, employee engagement and cloud computing technology in support of childhood cancer care research globally. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

Dell is being recognized in the "Emerging Technology" category for providing the secure cloud-based IT infrastructure for the world's first personalized medicine trial for pediatric cancer conducted by the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC) and supported by The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).

The cloud platform provides needed computing power to help increase TGen's gene sequencing and analysis capacity by up to 1,200 percent and improve collaboration among the team working on the trial.

Dell's health giving program has expanded to support childhood cancer care programs in other regions of the world, including China, India, Malaysia, France, South Africa and Mexico. Learn more about this initiative at www.dell.com/pediatriccancer.

The Computerworld Honors Program awards will be presented on June 4 at a gala event in Washngton, D.C.
