(AP) _ T-Mobile USA Inc. said Thursday that it is cutting 1,900 jobs nationwide as it consolidates its call centers in an effort to reduce costs and remain competitive. The job cuts will affect nearly half the employees at T-Mobile call centers. The company said that workers whose jobs are eliminated will have a chance to transfer to the remaining call centers.

Sarkozy: Jail those who browse terror websitesPARIS (AP) _ France's president proposed a sweeping new law Thursday that would see repeat visitors to extremist web sites put behind bars _ one of several tough measures floated in the wake of a murderous shooting spree. The proposed rules, unveiled by Nicolas Sarkozy after the death of an Islamist fanatic wanted for a horrifying series of execution-style murders, have alarmed journalists and legal experts, who say they risk pulling the plug on free expression.

Microsoft, TiVo drop suits against each otherDigital video recorder pioneer TiVo Inc. said Thursday that it had reached an agreement with software maker Microsoft Corp. for the companies to drop lawsuits against each other following TiVo's settlement with AT&T Inc. Microsoft had sued TiVo in 2010, alleging that the Alviso, Calif.-based company violated its patents related to an on-screen TV guide. TiVo later countersued.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said that such a practice is an "unreasonable invasion of privacy for people seeking work." HP combines printer, PC units in turnaround effortNEW YORK (AP) _ Hewlett-Packard Co. is combining its printer and PC divisions as it tries to overcome dragging profits, growing competition and the lack of clear identity. The move announced Wednesday will help the company streamline its business and save money to invest in growing areas. HP, a Silicon Valley pioneer, is hoping a renewed focus on innovation will re-establish the 73-year-old company as a technology trailblazer Zynga buys game maker behind 'Draw Something'NEW YORK (AP) _ Online game maker Zynga has bought New York-based OMGPop, maker of the popular mobile game "Draw Something." Zynga Inc. did not disclose the deal's financial terms. In "Draw Something," players draw on a mobile device's touch screen using their fingertips, and others _ in the same room or across the country _ have to guess what they've drawn. The assigned pictures range from easy to challenging, from an apple to Lady Gaga.

Major Yahoo shareholder launches board challengeSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ A major Yahoo shareholder has launched a campaign to win four seats on the Internet company's board, setting the stage for a nasty battle that could drag on for months. Hedge fund Third Point LLC, which owns a 5.8 percent stake in Yahoo Inc., thinks the struggling company would do better if Third Point representatives were in the boardroom helping recently hired CEO Scott Thompson overhaul the operations. Thompson joined Yahoo's board in January after the company lured him away from eBay Inc.'s PayPal to become its CEO.

Gov't sues AT&T over Internet callsWASHINGTON (AP) _ The Justice Department has sued to recover millions of dollars from AT&T Corp., alleging the company improperly billed the government for services that are designed for use by the deaf and hard-of-hearing who place calls by typing messages over the Internet. The system has been abused by callers overseas who use it to defraud U.S. merchants by ordering goods with stolen credit cards and counterfeit checks. In response, the federal government ordered telecom companies to register their users.

IBM, NYC hospital training Watson in cancerWHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ The medical training of IBM's speedy Watson computer will continue with a residency at a renowned Manhattan cancer hospital. IBM and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center said Thursday that they will add the latest in oncology research _ and the hospital's accumulated experience _ to Watson's vast knowledge base, and keep updating it.
